Running hot at higher speeds...
) and everything was done right this time by a GM Master Tech and some friends of mine that have gone through several head gaskets. I think we're safe on that end.I'm gonna stick with Dex-Cool since I've had good luck with it, plus, the car only has 44k miles on it and this is a brand new radiator.
I hate being in the dark about this and throwing parts at an unknown problem (kinda like the machines I fix at work), but this goes for adding to my and LS1Tech's knowledge base.
I'll know more tomorrow at this time as things should be accomplished by then. I just hope the weather holds out for me to drive the car.
I have my fan set to turn off at 65mph. Should I leave this, lower it, or raise it for more effectiveness?
Mine says enable 30mph, disable 35mph, or something like that.
The fan settings are:
Fan 1 off: 30mph
Fan 2 off: 35mp
Both fans off: 65mph
The car runs considerably cooler after draining the cooling system and refilling it with an 80/20 mix of water to Dex-Cool, with a bottle of Purple Ice thrown in. I've also replaced the thermostat, radiator cap, and routed the tranny lines through the auxilary cooler only (highway cruising sees 165* tranny temps and WOT sees maybe 180*). After this, the following:
65-70mph: 175-180*
70-80mph: 180-185*
80+: 190*
The car cools down as the speeds go down, stop & go traffic sees about 185*. I do believe the higher speeds increase the temp due to my 80mph runs the RPMs about 3000 (3.73s).
I've noticed, however, that high speeds with the AC on keep the car at 185-190*, probably due to the fan being on and pulling more air (Zirgo single 3250 CFM unit) along with the air flow from cruising. I'm wondering if I should disable the 65mph cutoff on the fan and just let it run when it needs to.
Comments?
