Default egr leak

Well, we put the pacsetters and TSP catted y in this weekend and everything went well. The y-pipe was a pain to place properly, and I retained all of the emissions stuff (the emissions hook up was probably the hardest thing I put on to be quiet honest).

Well, in the process, I did the egr mod. I reinstalled everything and now I have a small leak in, I'm guessing the o-ring. It's just a hissing noise and it has not effected the idle or anything, but it almost sounds like a supercharger whine...

Anyone had this problem? I ordered a new o-ring to try...Can I put some rtv or silicon seal at the top of intake where the egr bolts in to make it quit if the o-ring doesn't fix it?

You probably jacked up the O-ring. Spray a little WD-40 or something on it when you stick the new one in.

Get back to us after you get the new one in.

I honestly don't get it! how could a simple o-ring be screwing up like this? Still no erratic idle. Just when I turn it off you hear what sounds like a dog toy sqeaking from the pressure equilizing!

Anybody have any input? anyone had this happen, or am i the only klutz on earth that this could ever happen to, and no one knows how to fix it?

whoa whoa hey kid slow down...

so obviously you jacked up either the o-ring/nut/ect.
look over everything and find where the damage is... otherwise you incorrectly installed the tube end

i've fooled with this thing for a while now. I've tried this about 10 times in the past two days and nothing is better.

Stuff like this just really bugs me. I'm using a new o-ring...I place the o-ring on the egr tube (at the top) and put the tube in the intake and tighten...the bolt is fine, the gasket's fine, and i am putting the tube in completely perpendicular to the intake...everything should be good...but it's not.

It just seems like every time i touch something, what happens next just doen't make any sense at all?!

Either way, i'm out of ideas...any suggestions would be greatly appreciated...if not, thanks for trying to help :-).

That's pretty strange man. You should be able to seal it up somehow. Did that brass helicoil thing that the bolt goes into come out some?

nah...that's been my main objective; not to break it. but i still tighten it pretty darn good. I don't know where else it could be comming from.

what if I use an expansion plug in place of the egr tube on the manifold, and disconnect the wires to the egr valve (does the valve stay closed if you disconnect the electrical stuff?) to see if the leak is definitely comming from there. That way I don't have to remove all of the egr stuff that I spent so much time hooking up.

I want to keep the egr in order to prolong the life of the new catted y I have.

Just FYI...what is the difference in the 98-00 and the 01-02's. What was so different that the 01-02's didn't have to have the egr?
