Um, you ever sit in traffic on a hot humid day? Everything from front to back in the engine compartment will be hot. Not only that, aluminum gets hot fast, thats why composite intake manifolds are best. Why do you think people dont by the weiand manifold? Because it heat soaks. You ever touch the charge pipe of a car with a cold air intake? That pipe is so damn hot, it's rediculous.

No air flow??? Air is ALWAYS flowing through a lid

Yea so then as it flows into the engine it would take the heat from the aluminum lid with it and hurt performance.

composite intake manifolds are best because they are sitting on the damn block...

and as far as heat soak goes i havent seen any dyno sheets to prove how much hp you are really loosing

i tend to think that with the amount of air flowing through the manifold you are raising the temp by only miniscule degree amounts and inversly effecting hp by miniscule amounts

IM OFFICALLY CALLING BS ON HEAT SOAK ROBBING ANY SIGNIFICANT POWER

I just went out and grabbed the core support on my truck, were the air box is. It was cool, not hot. So if thats got the radiator bolted to it and its not hot why would an aluminum lid be hot? Just asking, i think a fabbed aluminum lid would look awesome. I make one and tell you how it works. HARDTOP, the description of your ride is f ' in hilarious.

You purge outside the engine bay for the record.

My IAT sensor read 260 degrees on a 80 degree day, a aluminum lid would definately increase that temp, its not but 6 inches away from the engine. Have you felt a MAF after a car has been shut off, the sucker is HOT! I agree with your agrument, somewhat, at highway speeds, or pretty much any consistent speed i doubt there is much difference with a aluminum intake/lid vs. standard composite, but most races are done from a stop, light, tree whatever, and the engine just running waiting for the green to drop, its going to initally pull in that hot air that is not flowing fast enough to cool anything at idle. Install University tested the affects of the heat from the engine on an SS hood and noted that it took 2 miles for the air to cool down from the piping in the hood, and most races arent 2 miles. Its a similar scenario with this.
