Muffler upgrade?

I just got a z28 and it came with slm cme exhuast. It sounds nice and mellow but its too quiet. Not much louder then stock I believe. I want the loudmouth sound or close to it. Question is. If i just swap out the muffler for a loud mouth resonator muffler will it sound like it?

Changing the muffler will get you some power over stock. But a cutout will get you a lot more over a muffler and csts way less.

No the muffler is what makes the difference. Cut the old muffler out and weld the new one in. You may have to weld some spacers in if the new muffler is shorter than the stock one. I did this to a 97 Formula I used to own......made a difference
If I were you I would get a decent sounding cat-bcak then do an electric cut-out. So that way you got the nice sound for the street, and when you wanna race. Flip the switch and your free flowin!!

i'm gonna vote for a catback over just a muffler. a muffler, like said, will give you performance gains (nothing huge) but a full catback will increase the diameter of the piping for better flow, plus if you go SLP, magnaflow, GMMG, corsa or borla you get stainless steel so it'll last forever. i feel that if you're going to buy a muffler and pay someone to weld it in, you may as well spend another $200-$300 and get a full catback offering better performance that'll last forever. you just get so much more with a catback over just a muffler it's worth a few hundred more in the long run.
