Default Issues with cutout.

On a 2001 LS1 T/A if I put an electric cutout on the car before the cats what else would have to be done to keep the car from lighting up the SES light? An easy question I'm sure, but I want to get this right.

Not many mods as of yet. Extended warranty ya know

Volant cold air intake, and some nice stainless steel sail panel inserts

Have one put on under the rear seat, won't throw any codes. You'd need 2 cutouts and a lot of work done to have them installed before the cats.

Thanks

Before the exhaust pipe goes over the axle, there's a little space between the rear seat floorboard and the rear seat area that looks like it's made for a cutout. See the stickies at the top of the page for pics, should be the last post in one of them.

You can easily put you right before the muffler, where the pipe bends to enter the muffler.

Spot under passenger seat is perfect - it really does look like it was made for a cutout. Best $60 I have spent so far. May do the electric thing if I ever decide it is too loud, but not yet!!!

That pipe before the axle... it's the I-Pipe, or intermediate pipe. If you go to a place that employs high school dropouts to weld it in, make sure you show them at what angle, for ground clearance issues, to weld it in. Mine is welded identically to the one in Manny's picture.

I have my cutout under the rear passenger seat and i was wondering how much louder would it be if i put the cutout further up the y-pipe. Like at the start of the Y??

It was way too loud for me. As you can see in my signature, my car is cammed with long tube headers and 2.5" catted Y pipe, and it was still too loud for me....

So, to keep that awesome idle sound, I did this with the cutout....

At idle it sounds just as mean as wide open, but eliminates most of the other unwanted sounds that a cutout brings with it. The cats help to reduce rasp, it truly sounds like a mean *** nascar now if you put the foot down. Nice clean sound, not a rasp orgy!

But would the cutout be a lot louder at the y-pipe collector? Because i have it under the passenger seat right now and i would like it to be louder.

I don't think it would be much louder there, don't hack up your exhaust for that. Get some headers and a cam....and you won't want it to be any louder than what it is there!
