Default Y Pipe problems

So I just got my Pacesetter Headers on along with a Tsp catted Y. No problems with header clearance but the Y presented various problems. First off, Texas left out two bolts for their clamps, no prob. The Y Pipe also has very little clearance at several points so I've gotta go to a shop and get them to heat up the pipe and flaten it out to provide enough clearance. When im goin down the road if I get on the throttle at all the pipe starts hittin the bottom repetitively. Main Problem: Tsp y pipe doesn't match up to the start of my Borla cat back at all! Large exhaust leak, really blows. Gotta go get it welded on along with some rear 02 sensor fittings after the cats. All in all though, sounds great, just more work to do.

I had problems getting my Y pipe into the factory I pipe. After some grinding, cutting and lubing (with some 20lb sledge persuation) she went in. I would never weld it though. Just my .02

I have the same set up and am having problems under heavy acceleration. Maybe you have read some of my posts about this, but the y-pipe is vibrating on the chassis somewhere and causing my knock sensors to retard timing (atleast to my best guess)...I can rev to about 3k, let out of the clutch and floor it and I won't even break the tires loose and it feels like I am draging a house behind me!

I had a reputable shop look at my y-pipe. I had some leaks as well and got them to weld the y-pipe pieces together. there is more static clearance, but it is still vibrating like crazy.

I hear that Thunder Racing has a "y-pipe bump stop" but I don't know how well they work (I would really like to know if they work or not from someone who has one).

Ya, we had to use alot of lubrication to get mine to straighten out; my y-pipe banged very bad after the install, so I bought this type of rubber at auto zone that was $2.00 in the exhaust section, and then rapped it with a role of exhaust leak wrap. I squeezed it in between the floorboard and y-pipe and the rattles are gone..

Can you remember anything else about that rubber piece? Sounds like a cheap solution to a bad problem. No more problems after that?

It's called an exhaust insulator; they come in diffrent thicknesses, the part number for the one I got is 17160. I first put one on and it melted after about 3 months, so I went 2 dollars more and bought the exhaust leak wrap to wrap it in, which so far is working well.
