Default What is the purpose of the evap system?

As asked, what is the purpose of he evap solenoid? Is it really necessary. What happens if it is removed.

It just vents the evaporated gasoline fumes into the manifold to be burned instead of into the atomosphere.

I just deleted mine last weekend. I removed the codes w/ HP Tuners, then removed it from the manifold and capped it. Then I unplugged the solenoid and removed it from the manifold. Then I unclipped it's hose from the factory hardline, slipped a piece of 3/8" hose over that, and routed it out of the way, under the fuse boxes, and the hose is just hanging out in that space the AIR pump used to be.

I also deleted the codes for the gas tank pressure sensor. I'm not sure if I needed to or not, but said oh well lol. I know the SES light will go off if the gas cap isn't screwed on tight, so I figured there would DEFINATLY not be any pressure in the system with an open vent.
