Default ca smog question

will a car pass smog if egr has been deleted and the codes tuned out?

just worried about sniffer. i know the "visual" is an issue too, but only worried about sniffer

you will pass as long as the pcm says they're working properly but yes you will fail the visual as they're not there

Could you just put a block off plate between the stock header and EGR?

I don't understand the point to deleting EGR. It doesn't hurt full throttle power, and in this case it would keep you from getting hassled when registering your car. I would just put the parts back on.

the intake i got doesnt have egr provisions.


and it looks better without. i can get the car smogged no problem. just curious if it would still pass the ol sniffer

Assuming you can get by the visual and the PCM readiness tests, the sniffer could nail you. The EGR helps lower cylinder temperatures which minimizes NOx. Without the EGR your NOx levels could be above the limits.
