I have pacesetter LTs right now with a y-pipe and cut out set up....i have a friend who can hook me up with some custom tru dual x system, the problem is that he only has the machinery to bend 2.5 in pipe.....would i benifit going with that x system even tho its smaller than my 3in y-pipe system.

A 2.5 inch x-pipe system flows better than a 3 inch y-pipe system.

A 2.5" system is fine for a true dual setup. My car has a 3" single, and even that flows plenty of exhaust.

Anything larger than 2.5 per side is overkill, its not a big block

when you say he can bend 2.5" pipe i assume thats hydralicc press bender

if its not mandrel bent then you need to just buy the tsp setup or buy a universal x pipe kit and let him work with that

think about it all of your exhaust (3" per side at the collector) condensed into one 3" inch pipe as compared to each header going into it's own 2.5" pipe. think of it this way, you five inches total to flow through compared to your 3 before. Like the other guy said, 3" is almost overkill for stock cubed engines. You wanna keep your diameter reasonable to keep a good velocity/scavenge.
I run a three inch x from TSP and love it, is it a little big for my set up(?).... Probably.
