How to check a water pump. I have heard 5 different stories of how to tell if the WP is functioning correctly.
If I take the cap off of the radiator, the fluid is right at the bottom of the neck. I start the car and let it run until the T-Stat opens (Then the upper hose gets hot and pressurized) so it seems the stat is opening. However when the stat opens and the upper hose fills it starts bubbling over quite alot out of the radiator. Is this what is is supposed to do or should the level just drop when the stat opens.
Please help.

Fill radiator to the top. Keep cap off, turn on heater full blast. Radiator should start bubbling over at some point and then suck the fluid down as the thermostat opens. Fill up to the top again and be on your way!!
