Temperature is temperature, and no matter how you look at it aluminum has a lower melting point than steel. I have been a metallographer for many years and trust me when I say thay aluminum will melt at a lower temperature. I've seen super alloys heated to the point of a solutioned gamma prime matrex. My job is to apply thermo diffusion and thermal barrier coating on military and commercial aircraft compoment, as well as certify the component fit for flight. However I am not expeienced with welding and may not know about specific procedures. I do know temperature caused by direct heat is different than heat caused by electricity in the sense that some metals are affected by electrical current easier than others.

i do this kind of stuff all the time and have never messed anything up. but i am not going to argue about it, i was just saying it could be done. i would definately go with the easyout route anyway.

i'm going to attempt the easy out method. but.. i dont think i can get a drill in there, which means i'm fucked.

oh well.. it was about time to man up and do the heads/cam anyways. gonna try in the mornin, if i dont have any luck that **** is gettin YANKED.

pulled the bolts out today.

they were definetly bottomed out.. i'm lucky I didnt snap any others. gonna try and easy-out it in the mornin, drill with a right angle drill, etc. etc. hopefully we can get it.

one of the best things about the kooks is there flange i hate the thin crappy flanges they leak, they bend, there worthless, they belong on gocarts not cars.... i was drooling looking at the craftsmenship put into my kooks.

your headers didnt include new bolts to use? i would think if its any kind of good company and something else needs to be changed(bolts) they would include them, or at the very least include information that they need shorter ones.. my kooks came with s/s bolts. another thing to do- always hand tighten your bolts wiggle alil if need be, but if your not putting clamping force on the peice your bolting down by the time you get tight always pull it back out and inspect everything (or if your pateint put the bolts in before even mounting the header etc. to see where it bottoms)- future reference..

good luck on the bolt removal. if you can get a small chisel punch in the hole try using that. the chisel and hammer method- the bolt would hafto be pretty close to the outside of the head to work, but if it is should make it break free.

tried a right angle drill today.. managed to drill it, and get an easy out in there, but the bolt wouldnt come out.

pulled the other bolts out, they were all bottomed out as well so now I need shorter bolts or same sized bolts with washers. oh well.

heads are hopefully gonna be off tonight.
