i broke something, what is it?

on the drivers side, going into the block there is a connector with some wires fed in to it (very very close to the #1 spark plug).

i broke it and didnt realize it, when it wasnt connected my entire drivers side bank of cylinders wouldnt fire. i noticed and took it out to fix and coolant started pouring out of the side of my block.

my question is, what type of sensor, if it is a sensor at all, is this?

ECT sensor - make sure you get one for a '98.

Yeah 98's were different size. It's a bitch fitting the 99+ into a 98 head... trust me.
