Default Full Exhaust Change

Having recently purchased my 1999 Trans Am, I'm looking to put a completely new exhaust system. While I have looked at cat-back systems as well as systems including a new midpipe and/or headers, before I make a decision on what to begin with I was hoping to find where would be the best place to begin. I've looked at both Magnaflow and SLP cat-back systems as a place to start, but I am not sure if this would be the best place to begin if I wanted to get an X or H pipe later on. Any guidance that could be given would be appreciated.

Get LT's... pacesetter for economy, QTP and Kooks for quality stainless steel. (QTP's come polished ). As far as fitment goes, pacesetters seem to fit well, Kooks fit well also. QTP didnt work out so hot for me in terms of fitment, but if u can get ur car high in the air, then installation wont be hard. As far as the rest of the exhaust goes, get either an x pipe or h pipe tru duals.

H-pipe sounds better, x-pipe performs just a tiny bit better but not much from what ive heard. Then again, its all subject to opinion so im sure some will tell u that x-pipes sound better than h, visa versa. Dumped tru duals will be really loud in car but is also cheaper. Over the axle setups will be pretty expensive and u are limited to 2.5 inch piping for over the axle setups unless u get the phb relocation kit, and even then some say its not possible.

If u must get a y-pipe then i wouldnt recommend QTP's y-pipe cause it turned out bad for me. Some will say they fit perfect so i guess it depends on how lucky u get. Iwould just recommend a custom 3" y-pipe with cats if u must and bullets and be done with it.

By the way, magnaflow systems are generally the quiter system. SLP's LM has been known to be loud and raspy but some like it. Id get Dynomax bullets, im gettin my setup all done with on the 28th (QTP LT's h-pipe with hi-flo cats, and bullets over the axle. I will post a video and show u what it sounds like. Then the following week, im gettin it dyno tuned so ill post what kind of numbers i make with the setup.

I never thought that I would ever be the person to say that something is too loud....but I am in the market for a new exhaust and from what I can tell, the Hooker is the way to go for tame under normal driving and mean when its required. My car is so loud that I fear driving it cause of the attention that I get. The flowmaster is loud but VERY VERY restrictive. Not worth it as just about everyone knows. The Magnaflow and Hooker are very good from what I have heard. The Pacesetter headers are a good way to go as well. Great fit and finish, but wont last as long as the Stainless ones.

Oh and what he said about H sounding better and X giving a smidge more power. Thats pretty much spot on.
