Default Headers And Starter Heat

Has any here experienced any problems with your starters getting too hot to work properly? I wanna know If when I get headers if I should get a starter shield or wrap so that it didn't heat soke.

I don't think that it is a really bad problem on the LS1 like it is on the BBC and SBC engines. I have seen very few cases of it happening. For peace of mind you can always get the starter shield for a few bucks from a sponsor though.

No problem here, there's plenty of clearance, so starter doesn't get too hot.

Make sure you keep the start heat shield on. I've experienced reduced starter life with it removed.

The only thing i've heated up with my headers is my clutch fluid. But that's only when beating on my car for a long period of time on some mountain roads.

I've never had a problem with my LS1 with headers. When I had my 89 Formula 350, after I put shorty headers on that, I was getting some rancid heat soak on my starter. Any more than like 20 minutes, I had to open my hood and wait like 25-30 minutes to start it. It was so embarrassing looking like I just broke down. I bought a brand new starter and a $20 heat shield and that seemed to do the trick.
