Default What headers do I get???

I have a 1998 Z28. I yanked out the EGR system and the AIR pump and hoses.

I know most headers come with the egr and air connections, but I know there must be some that don't have these connections.

Which ones are they???

Do I need to order a newer year headers for my and if so will they fit???

I am interested in the Grotts 1 7/8" Long tubes with a custom y-pipe.

Thanks for any help...

Mac Mid lengths...

FLP or SLP Longtubes...both good...

Longtubes will pay off in the long run if you plan on doing heads/cam...lets the engine breath a little bit better...

I'm installing my Grots tonight and tomorrow. Passenger's side is on, driver's side to go in the morning.

They're not 1 7/8, they are 1 3/4. They do have EGR and AIR hookups. Easy enough to make a small blockoff plate out of a chunk of aluminum, slather it with high temp sealer, and call it good.

Everyone was right on about installing these things. Gotta get the car at least as high as the header is tall (when parallel to the ground), passenger's side slides in like butter, driver's side requires removal of oil filter & drain plug (which I haven't done yet).

My headlight is about chest high, and I'm 6' tall. That's a lot higher than I'm used to working on the car.

Well I still have not purchased any headers yet.

I was thinking of either the Dynatech's or the Grotts.

I am going to be using these with a 382 All bore and stage 3 heads.

I am a bit concerned about appearance and that is why I would really like to not mess with any blockoff plates.

I do appreciate the advice and will take it into consideration when I make my purchase...

Carlos, Roger will make the 1 7/8 without EGR provisions if you want them that way. Just ask, that is the way I had mine done.

Carlos

Do the grotts 1 7/8 headers have the egr and air connections? Also Dynatech is going to be releasing a pair of 1 7/8 headers for our cars at the beggining of the year. So you might want to keep that in mind if the Grotts have the emission stuff on them. And you want the bigger 1 7/8 headers

Just wondering, how you jacked up / supported your car so your headlights are chest high

I know you need to get the car way up high to install some / most LT headers, could you provide some tips for the rest of us as to how to SAFELY jack / support your car up that high?

Thanks

The TTS headers are nice, but the cats and ypipe are a complete POS, and the header are overpriced. I think 99% of the guys with long tubes would be better served with mac headers and more money in other parts of their car.

It did not inspire huge amounts of warm fuzzies in the safety department, but this did work...

I have some jackstands that hiked the front of the car this high. They were on their next to last notch, I believe. They were placed under the pads right behind the front tire.

The trick comes with the floor jack. I used a pair of Rhino Ramps and some thick wood - and set my hydraulic jack on those - and jacked under the engine crossmember. (wood on the rhino ramps, then hefted the jack on to the wood). NOT the safest when compared to a lift, but it worked. Of course the e-brake was on, the rear tires were chocked with plastic wedge chocks, and I shoved some extra "stuff" under the car in case it fell (extra hydraulic jack, extra tires, extra jackstands). I definitely made it a 'commando mission' when the car was in this state, and the second the headers were in place, the car came down (on to other Rhino Ramps - I have 4 of them - and a pair of 5" wooden blocks I built to set on the ramps, to get a little extra lift).

I maybe spent a total time of 5-7 minutes trying to slide the Grots in to place. As soon as the car was high enough, they slid in very easily. I was impressed.

Car sounds good. Not as loud as I would have expected (no cats, 3" Y-pipe, SLP 2-on-the-left catback). It's actually quieter than my 94Z was with the cat and SLP single cat headers. Imagine that.

Definitely not something I'd want to do every day. I normally work using Rhino Ramps and the 5" wood blocks.

LJ_Z28; FLP will make headers without the egr tube if you request. I know this for a fact because when i ordered my headers they sent a set without the egr tube by mistake(i sent 'em back for headers w/ egr tube).
