Default Help me!!!!

I'm gonna need some help from you guys, I installed cam and heads on my 98 Camaro and last Friday it sounded pretty good without any problem, but then, yesterday I started my car but it made some very strange noises and some flames were coming out of the mufflers, I checked and changed the plugs as well as wires and coils and everything is fine, so, I'm wondering where does the problem come from?

I would really appreciate your help, coz my car is stuck in the garage right now since I cannot find the problem, thanks!

I'm a friend of aleSS and we cannot figure out what causes this problem: heads and cam installed on his 98 camaro as well as new plugs, wires and coils, and everything went fine, but then, yesterday, when starting the car, it made some weird noises, it sounded like bullet shots coming out of the exhaust tips pretty loud as well as some flames, what the hell is the problem? can somebody give us a hand and tell us what could cause this mess? thanx!

Sounds like a timing problem.
Were you ever able to drive it at all? Or did this problem happen upon finishing the cam&head swap..

Do you have a ses light-codes?

Were the valve springs pre-set, or did you set them your self? If you set them your self maybe they mighht not have set your lash right..

Sounds like exhaust backfire. Check the valvetrain parts, springs, lash... Also recheck the ignition system as well as the plugs and make sure there are no hairline cracks in the plugs ceramic insulator.

I had badc exhaust backfire after i did my headers because I had a tiny barely seeable crack in the ceramic on one plug, it caused unburned fuel to fall into the header and then explode from the header heat. It sounded like a gunshot.

Nope, I'm not able to take it out and drive it, and I don't have any light codes, so that is why I'm pretty stuck with it right now, don't know what to do since I have no idea what causes that problem, what should I do?

, my neighboard comes very angry!!!!, for the noise!!!! lol

Are you serious????

You have to install all the springs and pushrods and then turn the motor and when each valve hits fully seated you have to use a torque wrench and tighten the rocker nut down to 22 lbs-ft. You cant just slap them in and tighten them down to what you want. I cant believe I am hearing this!!!

Yes, I did set them to 22lb and I did double checked them, no
problem.lol

I know it sounded pretty stupid from me to have said that I hadn't set the valve springs, but yes I did, sorry guys, firsthand experience to install cam and heads.

No, the springs and valves weren't already installed with the H/C kit, coz my friend had bought the cam kit(T3) from TSP, and the heads (241 hand porting) were made from another performance shop. We setted them to 22lb and double-checked'em, we also put new wires, plugs and coils in order not to have any problem, but I guess it is still not working. What do u think it is?

I would call TSP and see what they think, they'd be the best to answer this. Good luck though I wish I could help!
