Are they nothing more than an EGT probe?
I've played with singe wire EGT probes that use two dissimilar metals to generate a small voltage (Mv) when heated, the voltage is simply feed to a voltmeter that is calibrated to display exhaust temp.
I know the three wire O2's are equipped with a heater (useing 2 of the wires), so that just leaves the one!
Are these O2's just as simple? ... 1002

Thanks TA_2001: From what I gathered the O2's do not just measure exh temp but detect O2 content.
Does anyone know the mechanics of how this O2 content is detected by the sensor?
I gota suspect it's some type of chemistry thing!

The oxygen sensor uses a solid electrolyte(zirconia) sandwiched between two measuring electrodes that reacts with oxygen and produces a MV output. <img src="images/icons/smile.gif" border="0">
