Default K&N fpik filter on stock bellows

can you loose the whole lid setup and make the ram air functional by just putting a fipk filter on stock bellows?

Dont know why you'd wanna do that but there is an air temp sensor in the lid you'd have to relocate.

bellows you mean the maf.if cou could make some sort of brace to keep it all steady.i thought about this but just spent the extra money and bought a lid and drop in filter.
you could use a piece of pvc to remount the air intake sensor.if you have a ram air hood everything should clear, but you are gonna get all that underhood hot air.

Well no.

But that's because "Ram Air" is not infact ram air it's just a marketing thing.

You need to be doing over 200mph for any Ram Air setup to work, and about 350mph for significant gains.

What these systems do is make use of "cool air" ducts, this means it simply take an air feed from outside the car, so the air intake temp is closer to ambiant than it would be otherwise.

Air box resonance, this is where the air box is tuned to the natural frequency of the engine and thus draws the air in, much like how windpipe musical instuments work.

Combine these with higher flow filters and this is where ALL the "Ram Air" setups make their extra hp.

The k&n is expensive. It's pretty well established that a good filter (stock OEM paper one), after market lid and a CAI will makes as much power as any other setup on bolt on/cammed LS1's.

This includes using the STOCK MAF (good for 600bhp!!!+) and the stock bellows. The bellows is only a tube and the SLP "performance" ones are simply humbed silicon hose which you can buy from hundreds of other places at 1/5th of the cost. Plus as it's a humped hose the name "smooth bellows" is totally false and misleading.
