Default Anyone tried to OD the waterpump?

Overdrive, that is. I was thinking 15-20%.
Any different size pullies available for the waterpump?
Benefits I can see, any downside?
Clearance problems, maybe?

If you overdrive the waterpump you are just eating up hp period. Why turn it any faster? If you want you engine to run cooler, put in a lower temp thermostat.

Now, you may want to underdrive it by 15-20% to save power.

Why? There could be several reasons. In some situations the increased cooling vs the 2 or 3 HP lost could be helpful. There are many 90* plus days in FL, as I'm sure there are in several other states. In some circumstances it may translate to power gained, maybe?

I agree with 2quick, rpm does very little to help cooling effiency once the setup is optimized. If you are really concerned, you should do the thermostat, and if that is not enough, try a Becool (or other) radiator.

Not only does it NOT really help anything, any time you turn a vane style pump faster than it was intended you risk cavitation, then you will have no cooling at all. Best off leaving it alone, getting a 160 stat, and a fan switch. If you need more than that you'd better stop driving on the surface of the sun!

Since you're in Florida try running less antifreeze and more water, or some water wetter. Water is a more efficient conductor of heat than ethylene glycol, but does not inhibit freezing or corrosion, so it is important to keep antifreeze in your engine even if the temp never drops below 90 degrees.

Have fun

Thanks for the thoughts, guys. I'm not having any cooling problems, actually. It was more a hypothetical "what if". I had never thought about the possibility of more turbulence @ faster speeds (not sure I agree right now).
If there is a known cavitation point (rpm), then I guess it's below the threshold of the effect of the air moving past the radiator/engine when moving.
I've known of people that say they "overdrive" their small block WP, but wondered if the benefit is real.

actually there are situations you could benefit from a OD water pump but rare. running a pure coolant system like Evans NPG+ it is usually designed to be overdriven because it is a whole diffrent substance than antifreez-water mix.
