I've tried searching, but I don't have time to go through every thread(college=homework)...I can't really ind any detailed information about the blackwing air filter...When I get my LS1 (most likely a Trans Am) this summer, I am thinking about an slp lid and a blackwing air filter because I don't feel like constantly replacing the paper filter...Also, does the SLP CAI provide any benefit, and I was also thinking about SSRA(does it fit trans ams? just double checking)...Thanks for your help...
couldnt give you first hand advice, but im pretty sure the consensus is: 1. paper filters are better (keep more particles out of the engine), learn to change them at regular intervals 2. CAI will increase performance by some (small) amount.

yea but once school school starts again after next summer, I will be traveling home on certain weekends, so round trip is 480 miles at least, so the miles are gonna pile up fast..In that K&N bashing thread, 300bhp/ton mentioned the blackwing filter being better than K&N as well as other cottonweave filters...I was just wondering if he or somebody else could elaborate on how well they filter and perform, I can't find that much info on them...
I'm not sure you can still get them, unless SLP convinced Donaldson to start making them again, and are now carrying the Blackwings. An alternative (maybe even better) would be the Amsoil EaA 83 filter; no oil, high flow, superior filtration, and you clean/reuse it (up to ~ 100K miles) by just vacuming it with a shop vac, or blowing the dirt out with low pressure line. BTW; this is the same Donaldson technology as the Blackwing.

Never heard about the other filters, but I've had K&N filters in every car I've driven for several years, the longest being 60k+ miles. Never had any problem whatsoever. They last, improve power (a little), relatively easy to clean. I'd put them on any car I own, from daily drivers to both my TAs.
