so what about the cat's? should i be looking at:

random tech's
magnaflow's

also whats the part #'s on those? Thanks a million everyone your making my day

so $600 for the y-pipe with cats in stock locations (or are they not?)

the cats are like $150 each or something like that could someone clear that up?

also any shorty's proven better then others. right now I am leaning towards edlebrock as I said because of thier quality but please give input

I don't see how they could not be in the stock location, as that setup is meant to be bolted right up to the stock manifolds. It would not make ANY sense otherwise. If you look at that pic, you can see why I always call the stock setup a "cat/down pipe", but I know I'm the only one who calls it that.

If you read the exhaust sticky you will know that shortys are not worth it, even in cali. The best thing you could do is get a set of MAC mid length headers and weld a C.A.R.B. plate from a set of JBA headers onto the MACs. The macs are shorter than LTs and make a few less HP, but you now have a setup that will likely pass smog.

Of course all of the above is for off road use only

well i had crappy 98 manifolds, so my main thing is being legal now and with a nice set of heads i can be legal with 400rwhp which is all I really want (for now) and I wont get rid of the Long tubes I will keep them in storage.

shortys and y pipe?

Just so you know if the smog place is being really technical those cats will not pass in CA. There are no aftermarket CARB legal cat converters for our cars available yet. Magnaflow makes the cats that are 49 state legal. The one state not there ? Thats right CA. Now most people do not know this or understand this but there can be problems for the car if an aftermarket set of cats is put on for strictly visual requirments. Even if the cat says OBDII legal on the box such as the Magnaflow part #94005 and 94015 which is the number by appication they exempt CA in the listing.
