I still have the Hooker stock replacement muffler. Insalled it 3 years ago. Loved it with the stock exhaust. It had a deaper sound.
When I went to headers and ORY, the car sounds great idling, raspy between 1700-2200 or so at times, but I absolutely love the sound from 3K to red line. Have not seen any noticeable gains in ET at the track from the cut out open, other than the car just sounds rediculously loud each pass.
Glad you found the problem that made you not like it, but I had to post just to re-assure others thinking about getting it.

A friend just replaced his Flowmaster with a Hooker this morning. He has Pacesetters and ORY. The Hooker was amazingly quiet but sounded great at WOT. Really nice.
