Iron exhaust manifolds?

Iron exhaust manifolds? I understand that properly modified, the 2001/2 cast iron exhaust manifolds flow about as well as shorty headers (and don't make the emissions guys and dealers all crazy). What exactly has to be done to them? something about cutting them apart, removing a stub and rewelding them?? Any info, anyone? <img src="images/icons/confused.gif" border="0">
