Temp. Fix For Y-Pipe Banging Floorboard, Need Advice.. Ok at some point when I get some more work done on the car Ill have my Pacesetter Y yanked off and a custom one made but for now Ive got an idea for a temp. fix for my ungodly floorboard banging. I got 20ft of black header wrap the other day and a couple 4" SS hose clamps. The top of my Y is kinda flattened to avoid this problem so Im thinking about prying the pipe down a little and folding up a maybe about a 2" thick and 6" long block of this header wrap and putting it on the flat part where it still rubs and locking it down with the hose clamps. It wont be very noticeable and i think "should" get me by for now. Anyone tried this or have any ideas/advice? I figure at worst im out some time and a few bucks and i just plan on having one made soon.
i had a cool idea. i have those little rubber monuts from my MSD box. they got a screw attach to the rubber and i thought. what if you drilled a hole fromt he inside under the carpet to where the y pipe hits. from the inside put a nut on it and cover it up with the carpet so it would be hidden, but when the y pipe rears up to bang the rubber stopper wont let it...
Gotta keep temp in mind also. Thats not a bad idea but you would prob still feel it hit and it would melt into something not specifically for high heat I would think.
Or wrap the y-pipe in that heat resistant gauze. I had it on my last supra and even after giving it a statutory BEATING it was still just warm to the touch. Might save the things from melting...

Quick fix. I'v done it on 2 fbodies. Take a peice of the EGR rubber hose or heater hose thats roughly the same size and run a clamp through a peice of it about 3 inches long. Then wedge between the pipe and car and then tighten the clamp around the pipe. Mine never melted and was on their for a month or so. My buddies didnt have a problem when we did it to his either. It stopped the hitting.
I did the thing with the heater hose and clamp. At one point I had it wedged in the tightest spot between the Y and floor but it caused way too much vibration in the car. I moved the hose to a point where it was barely touching the floorboard and it has been perfect since then.

I used the Mufflex LS1 Y-Pipe "Bump Stop" Hanger from Thunder Racing and it stopped all my banging.
I used a pry bar to gain about 1" of clearance from the floorboards at the closest point to the pipe and put an exhaust hanger rubber in between the pipe and the floorboard. My y-pipe also hit on my Spohn adjustable TA.
Then I installed the Mufflex hanger and adjusted it to hold the y-pipe. I removed the exhaust rubber and the problem was gone for good.

i had same problem after i installed Pacesetters and TSP catted y. i heated up the area where its runs under frame rail while in my vice and slowly crushed the pipe a hair. put it back on and im all good now. i crushed about 4"-6" long and about 1/4" crush job if that
