If you were a little rich, the GMS leaned you out. Tuning would have been a better investment, but enjoy the fact that it worked for you.

Is it better to use the stock maf "as-is," or descreen it? I notice some people descreening and porting their stockers.

unless you have a serious heads/cam or FI setup, leave it screened. descreening a maf on a bolt on car may decrease power. i think slowhawk just did a test on that

Yea my H/C setup will be going in this winter. Will 430-450 rwhp be too much for a screened maf?

you are right the large maf fools the computer to believe there is less air flow so the fuel is reduced and timing is advanced.

So the screen on the stock maf isn't meant to be removed, but leaving the screen on would be a restriction at 450 rwhp. At the same time, an aftermarket maf is no good and its hard to tune. Do i have any other choice but to go maf-less?

MAFless is easier than you think. Especially if you have HPTuners or EFIlive

You absolutely can remove the MAF screen.
Personally, I see no point in running a speed density tune. Guys
are running a hell of a lot faster than you on the stock MAF.

Just my 2 cents of course. Congrats on the trap speed gain.

it is true there are people out there that do it. i don't know how too. infact i am in shopping for a tunning package and do not know which one to buy. i was reading a thread by some one who had the hp tuner and the first thing in it was replace your stock maf! he too admitted to not knowing how to do an sd tune. but still i would think you would want to be proficient at tuning before removing the maf. and i still dont know if i need a hand held or the laptop version.

Congrats. Sounds like you had a good run. But my runs were back in late Sept/early October. Race temp was in the low 70's. I haven't been to the track in a month or two to experience the "cooler" racing weather.

I've heard many times that the ftra is worth a few mph in the quarter. I'm guessing the other 1 mph is from better weather, better driving, or the GMS maf leaning your car out.
