Default Starting problem, need help.

I am completely confussed here. Yesterday I tried starting my car. all interior light work, radio, everything. Turn the key and nothing at all happens, no security light, no clicks. Checked the Clutch safety wires, checked the starter and I didn't see anythign wrong. SO after tring to jump a few wires, I am advised about pulling the starter relay, and jumping the 30 prong off the power lead with the key on. It works!!! car runs fine, but I noticed the gauges werent working. So I clean the chip of the key and the terminal, put the relay back in.. and still nothing.

What would cause the gauges not to work? If it were the VATS, wouldn't the car shut off? What is causing this problem?

The temp gauge may or may not work due to me not allowing it to warm up, the oil pressure gauge and tapped out at 80 PSi, the fuel gauge is reading full but I know I dont have a fuel tank, but the volt gauge seems to work fine. I pulled the battery out and checked a few thing for about 15 minutes.

I am not sure if I want to drive the car like this... I am completely confused about this problem. It happened out of nowheres...

I have already search for this issue but it seems everyone else either has a slow cranking car or its an issue with the starter. My issue is not the starter, or the battery.

Are you sure that your battery is really in good shape? A lot of times the gauge cluster messing up is a sign of a weak battery.

It doesn't seem to be an issue with the battery... the car wont crank over with the key, but when I jump the starter at the relay, it fires rigth up. The only gauges that arent reading right is my fuel and oil gauge... the temp gauge does work. If it were a problem with the securtiy system, I am sure the car wouldn't start and run.

I swapped a few Relays out, and checked the fuses and everythign seems to be fine. When I turn the key "on" everything come on as normal, just doesn't crank over.... almost like it is not coneecting with whatever it has to. I dont think that woudl cause an issue with the gauges though.. would it?

I really hope that I dont have to tear the column apart. It seems as if nobody else has had this issue that I am having.

Humm....wierd. When you say you swapped some relays out, did you actually replace the starter relay with a different identical one? Maybe you should buy one new starter relay, and have everything hooked up back in stock fashion, no jumpers. I'd try that first.

The Relays were new, I replaced the Starter adn ING. relay. The fuel and oil pressure gauges are maxed out just like when you tun the key to the on position... I am still not able to start the car by the key itself, but I can stick a wire on the "30" prong of the starter relay spot, and touch it to the power lead and the car starts right up... but the 2 gauges are still maxed.

I haven't modified anything at all, its really wierd... the car has ran perfectly fine the last 2 years and I have never had an issue...

Have you tried just jumping it the old-fashioned way i.e. two cars and a cable?

I would say try it that way with the relays in their normal positions and see if the car still starts, and then if the gauges are still failing.

Load test the battery first. Voltage test are not accurate. Or do what Da Swami said.

I dont think its the battery because everything else comes on as normal, not dim or anything... and the starter doesn't click or pull a draw. From the relay box, I can touch a wire from the 30 prong to the lead and it starts right up. I just treid 2 new relays and we have now eleminated the relay being the problem. It has to be in the ignition wiring somewhere.
