Default replace spark plugs???

Well I'm about to install headers and I realize that it will be way easier to put new plugs in while the headers are off but is it really necessary? My car has 49,xxx miles on it so i'm not sure if it needs new plugs or not.

Trust me you will want to replace them...because even though it is "easier" to do a plug change after you have headers it's still a pain in the ***. For the first time in my life it was a pleasure to replace the plugs during my LT's install. It's cheap and easy so why not

I really rather not mess with it if its no big deal to run the stock plugs...are there really that many advantages to new plugs?

um yeah..... better spark = better combustion = better fuel economy and improved performance...

your stock wires have over 1250 ohms of resistance per foot of wire... MSD's have 40-50 ohms of resistance (plus look cool )

a missfire will make your car run like **** and gas mileage will greatly decrease...

plus when u do your headers u HAVE to remove your wires and u will prolly damage them... if u do not remove your plugs you are almost 99.9% garenteed you will crack the porcelin on one when takin out or installing the headers (so this will result in you taking them out anyways to find the 1 or 2 or 3 you f-ed up)....

the NGK tr-55's (most popular plug on here) go for $1.77 a pop at discount auto so 16 bucks... why wouldnt you replace um

the MSD 8.5mm SUPER CONDUCTOR WIRES go for 59.99 from the WS6store

prolly the most popular combination on any bolt on-fully built LSx engine...

changing the plugs and wires is part of routine maintance....

Since you have to take them out anyway, I think it would be foolish not to change them now along with the wires.

Thanks for all the info presto_z...Can I get those plugs at like o'reilly's, auto zone, or similar store. There isn't any discount auto around here. Can I buy plug wires anywhere locally or do I have to order them...

you should be able to get the plugs at any major auto parts store....

as for the wires most places sell the cut to fit for around 80 bucks they are only 8mm instead of 8.5mm and u have to cut and crimp them yourself (may have some for LSx engines pre cut but highly doubt it...

so i bought mine from here http://www.ws6project.com/user_stor/...d05ce01b0803d1

the wires are already proper length so no need to cut and crimp and the plugs should be pre gapped to .55 (but always double check them before you install them to be sure)
70 bucks for the plugs and wires.. you cant beat that.. they have super fast shipping too

I say go for the change while its the easiest. What harm can it do?? I plan on doing mine this spring when I install my LTs so I say go for it. Might as well kill two birds with one stone.

Well I'm sad to say that I think you convinced me to go ahead and order them Even though I would rather not mess with it it would be stupid not to. But I have one more question about the wires...How easy are they to change?

EASY, you have to remove the stock wires for the LT install so u would have to re-install them anyways..

they just push on, you will hear the wires click on (one click on the plug) (2 clicks on the coil packs)

for the back plug on the pass. side i recomend connecting the wire to the plug from underneath the car (easy acess) and connecting it to the coil pack from uptop..

with these engines it is nearly impossible to cross any wires since each coil pack is directly above each plug...

yes you should change them... its only $16 and it saves you the pain of having to do it later on when all that other stuff is in the way. i mean come on... about to put $$$ headers on there, why cheap out with the other stuff. do it all right the first time.

Do not forget to put "Never Seize" (spelling?) on the threads of the plugs before installing. Make sure not to get any on the electrode.
