What is this thing?? What is this thing and do I need it? I was down changing my fog lights when I found it, looks like something for smog? (in cali) there was one tube running out of it that is broken and doesnt lead anywhere... I dont have any dash lights, and she runs great. Its been disconnected for 1-3 years???....

I saw the same thing a while back. Have no Idea what it is. Mine also is not connected to anything at all. Does not look like it ever was either. I would LOVE to know what that thing is.
Also it is on the passenger side under the headlight.

I had the whole front corner of the driver side of my t/a cut off and it isnt on that side so it cant be ainything for the AIR system. It could be the black box or something. I can look tomorrow and I'll tell ya for sure what it is if you really wanna know.

Some guy a while back had two. One installed, and one just bouncing around up there not connected to anything on his stock *** car.
There should be a small line running through the wire loom up to a T by the PCM. One side goes into the cabin of the car, other side goes behind the manifold to a vacuum port. With this open, you have a vacuum leak. If you're not going to fix it, you need to at least cap it where the line runs back up the fender.
I have a slight issue when I accelerate to get on the highway with the ac on I lose vaccum and the ac goes to the floor until I let off the gas. Wonder if hooking this back up will fix that. I'm going to try as soon as my car gets back from the body shop.
YES...Hooking that resevoir up should fix that. You also have a small vac. leak with it unhooked as well. There should be a "T" up near the manifold where this line originates. It basically has a vaccum inside, and sort of stores it so when you do go to zero vac., you HVAC vents will stay put. Also...if you notice that when you shut your car off, and move one of the HVAC vent controls, you hear a hissing...that slowly goes away? Thats the VAC canister working and using up all its stored vaccum.
If it is in fact coming from that canister in the front...Kinda hard to tell from the pic. AIR should only have hoses going to the exhaust and all that. And the charcoal canister is on the fuel tank itself I believe. Hook her back up and see what you get!

Its probably a plastic hose right? Those things suck. They are always breaking or cracking if they are in a spot where they see movement. Like under the car where wind could make them move back and forth a lot. Then eventually fail. You can go to autozone and get a piece of small vac. line. It will be tough to get it to fit on that plastic line....but the tighter the better. That will work as a "splice". They also have coils of that plastic line back by the PCV valves. Atleast thats where it is in my store. They hvae a few different diameters..if you just watn to replace that whole line.

I guess that depends on your definition of alittle bit. With the HVAC settings to off...meaning you dont have any vents selected, its normal to have some come through. Because you can turn your temp selector to heat, and feel warmth. But I think thats just the air being pushed in from driving and from the fans creating draft in the engine bay. I might be totally wrong on that... But every car that Ive ever owned did the same thing. If you leave the temp set to hot, you will feel heat in the cabin. If you leave it to cool, it will just feel like ambient temperature.
