Default Questiong about CAT placement...

Has anyone ever placed (1) cat in the I-pipe ? .. Instead of placing 2 in the Y pipe. Is there any difference if power or sound, Anything? .. Dont care about emissions..

Im wanting to place the cat in I-pipe after my Cutout ... Is this possible and will it work to just quiet the car down a little and cut down on the off road stinch, ..But then just open up the e-cutout when i want it to be loud...

Elaborate....

you will sufficate your exhaust as GM put 2 cats on the system for a reason...

you would be better off ditching the 1-cat idea and going with a large baffled muffler to replace it if you want to quiet things down when your cutout is closed

+1, a single cat in the ipipe will flow twice as worse as 2 in each side of the ypipe, you don't want to do that. If you are putting on cats put both on.

yeah, cats flow best when they are hot as hell so if your gonna run cats, put em as close to the engine as possible

1 cat in the I pipe would have to be huge, and there's no room for it.

I ran a single cat in the i-pipe for almost 2 years with no real problems. The cat is pretty much useless for what it's intended for that far back, but it really cut the rasp and gave me a nice deep tone.

The reason I did that was that I had purchased two cats to have the exhaust shop put them in my offroad pipe so I could pass inspection. The guy that was going to do the exhaust said there really wasn't enough room to put it in the y-pipe so he said he'd pass it for inspection if he just put the single cat in the i-pipe. I used a magnaflow cat and it fits fine.
