Default open headers?

any one running open headers??? (no x-pipe or h-pipe) ... i know running a x or h pipe is said to equal pressures and help evacuate the exhuast better but does this hold true on a high hp motor w/ a big cam and more compression???? i know alot of the old school guys w/ older camaros just run open headers out the side .... any input??????

thanks

I run pretty much open headers (Hooker Lts) on my cammed SS and I haven't had any problems. The exhaust is dumped about 6-8 in. behind the y-pipe with no rear exhaust and the cats are gutted. Needless to say, its loud..

I only drive it on the weekends however.
