Default Pacesetter header install with ramps

I see alot of people have installed these headers using ramps in the front, and putting the rear on jackstands. Question is, I have read that you need the front tires about 10" off the ground. All the ramps that I have seen are only about 6" high. Is that enough to do this install ? Or do I need to look for a higher set of ramps ?

I would think that it would be extremely difficult to get the swap done without going higheron the front lifting of the car. Get it on jack stands in front and back and your life will be much easier.

you will not do it with the front tires on ramps.....

when i did mine i put the rear tires on the ramps and put the jackstands under the front on their second to highest setting....

u will also need cinder blocks to stand on to acess the engine bay...

when i did it i didnt even put the back on jackstands. all you need is a foor jack for the front and jackstands.
i actually pulled mine on ramps and then jacked it up(easier w/floorjack), but its only a few inches higher and you can get enough clearance. jacking up the back is not necessary.

Ramps ain't gonna cut it here. To do it yourself, it's at least jackstands that go up to 20" high or bust.

you can do it just by jacking the front up, but hell no its not going to work with just ramps, its not 100% necessary to lift up the back although it may help you get under the car easier...

you may need to "slide" the catback to get it to fit the y properly, so it would be a good idea to atleast use ramps for the rear...

I wouldn't even get under a car supported by ramps unless they were solid and had a wide base. I've known of two people killed by cars falling on them. It's not worth it. I can't even fathom how some people stack jackstands on top of wood blocks and think it's safe. At least get a set of 4 super heavy duty truck jackstands. I wouldn't want anyone to die just trying to mod their car.

I used large jackstands in front and ramps in the rear.

Here are some numbers from my install last night.

The K-member at its lowest point was 18 inches off the ground.
The only jack stands that I used were placed just behind the front tires on the sub-frame and were at there highest notch, approximately 17 inches.
My hanging tire was 8.5 inches off the ground.
The rear tires were left on the ground.

My passenger side header slid in with no effort and so did the driver side.

All spark plugs were removed as well as the steering shaft. I also had the coil packs and valve covers off.

I had no EGR or AIR provisions on mine (not sure if it makes a difference) and I also removed the heat shield on the passenger side to allow more room(probably not necessary)

With all this done I was able to install the headers by myself and get all header bolts in with the use of a small socket wrench and 3/8" socket.

Use a little piece of scotch tape to hold the gasket to the header while you get a couple header bolts started, then remove the tape.

I have to admit that I was a little scared about the install after reading some posts, but I had no fittment issues and it went really smoothly.

shorties you can very easily with the 6inch ramps, but LTs... you might if you angle them and have an extra hand on top.... and watch out for the starter!
