Default SSRA ...to seal or not to seal?

hey do you guys think i should seal off my SS hood with the SSRA or not? it doesnt make very much sense to me to black it off, because it seems like the more air the better...but i know for some reason they say you should? let me know what you think and WHY

I sealed mine. I have a Whisper Cold Air Scoop on my SS but Im ordering a SSRA for my B4C. I sealed mine because i figured the little air that the SS hood flows isn't nearly as much as the cold air scoop.

the SSRA will suck more air than the hood scoop. air that could be going to your intake will be bled out of the hood scoop if it's not sealed up

That hood scoop flows pretty good. I did and experiment w/ an air hose and foot powder.. But it does NOT feed directly to the airbox. A lot of room for it to bleed out.

Doesn't the SSRA seal up to the lid?
FTRA comes with a rubber strip that blocks off the opening so that all air comes through the FTRA.

I left my hood alone.

this may be a noob question but....how exactly does the hood scoop funnel air to the airbox? i looked under the hood and theres some small slits coming out the back of it. i assume thats where the outside air is coming in but it doesnt look like that hooks up to anything. so if its just bringing in air and swirling around the general engine area, how can it add more hp, or does it basically just help to cool things down in there.

the only logical thing i could see is that the air coming from the SS hood is heated because its not a direct path, so sealing it off allows better suction from the SSRA and colder air

The expectation of sealing is that there is a mild pressurization once the car gets up to 30 or 40 mph. With high overlap cams, a slight increase above ambienent pressure on the intake could be pretty helpful.

This could all be BS, but I've seen consistent results at the track with sealed FTRAs of a 1 mph gain.
