Exhaust install problems...
I was working on taking off the stock exhaust tonight (99 stock z28), and immediately hit a snag. I was taking off the bolt on the wide clamp where the catback attaches to the y pipe. That bolt was rusted so bad i had to use a ton of pb and then rethread the bolt with a tap and die set. anyway, i got the nut loose, but it cracked horizontally, so the other half of the nut was still there holding and siezed to the clamp, and theres so little left i cant get a socket around it.
i guess its time to take it to the shop to have it done. i thought about cutting the clamp and buying a new one, but i looked up the part number and it says its part of the exhaust package. i dont know exactly what size clamp to buy and exactly what kind, or who would carry it. if anyone else knows it would help a bunch.
also, to you guys who have welded your exhaust up, do you typically weld the connection at the y-pipe/catback, or do you leave that clamped just like it is stock?

Most of the time it's welded, but you can request a flange be put in as an option, since the stock ypipe is 2.5" I believe and most catbacks ipipe are 3"? If they are the same size you can use any type of band clamps.

yes, the stock chamber pipe is 2.5 inch and most aftermarket chamber pipe are 3inch.
when i did my catback... the heat sometimes weld that nut to the pipe clamp.. i had to get someone to torch it off for me.
