Default Mac Header Coating

Im getting new headers and need some advice from people that have or had these headers.
I know they get great performance gains, but how good is the coating... really?

Please state how long, or how many miles you have put on yours and what state your in.
I dont drive my Z28 in winter, so im not worried about bad weather, and/or sand and salt.

The HTS coating is just high temp silver paint. It will last but how long depends on the weather and etc. you drive in. Mine have been on for about 5 years with no ill affects but that's only after 11000 miles. I also put a few more coats of high temp paint on before I installed them.

Edit> If you plan on buying MAC headers new, I'd opt for LT's over the macs. You'll see many good points on both sides of the LT/MAC argument here: https://ls1tech.com/forums/generation-iii-external-engine/613881-mac-vs-pacesetters.html

MACs are a great header but if you aren't getting a Super Deal, get the LT's.

I am looking into that system too because they bolt right into the cat plus they sell the ory pipe that can be easily swapped out. I just haven't found an attractive price. I was looking at the ceramic coated system but it only seems that the headers themselves are coated with the ypipe being painted.

I bead-blasted it all off and used DFI high-temp paint and it lasted for 10K miles with no signs of deterioration before I pulled them off. I'd clean them up really well with some brakeclean, use some quality high-temp' paint, and spray it on. I don't know how much salt exposure you get, but that coating may not last as long if it's your DD.

Just how hot does the high temp paint need to be ? Just wondering how hot the gasses going out the motor and the temp of the headers gets up to ?

I had those headers on my LT1 car for about 3 years, the coating still looked good. I'd say it serves its purpose.

Mac mids dont rust as much as long tubes in general cause they don't hang underneath the car.

I have a set. The HTS coating like stated isnt mch worth talking about. Its just a header paint, nothign comparable to a ceramic coating. I went over them a 2nd time with header paint before installing them. They have a bit of surface rust now, 3 years later, but its nothing work talking about. I'd say they have held up pretty well, and my car is never garaged. I could take them off, sand them down, and have them looking almost new again in no time.

I've seen long tube collectors rust much worse, but I think a lot of it depends on the conditions in which you keep and drive the car. I wouldnt be spurised if heavily salted roads will do a number on uncoated headers.
