Default MAF's

so i've been getting a ton of different answers and opinions of what to do about a mass air flow. i've been told the factory ones are more accurate. i've been told the stock ones suck. aftermarket ones arent as accurate. arent worth the money. can anybody let me know what their experiences were?

stick with the stocker until you start having problems... then you can start looking at either a new GM one or aftermarket MAFs

Don't buy a Granetelli, I had one and it made the engine ping like no other.

Stock maf's can flow enough air for whatever you want to do with the motor. If you dont want to bother with the maf, go speed density. Aftermarket maf's could possibly get you some hp but as soon as you tune the A/F with wideband, you will see no gains or very little at all. Save your money and buy some parts that will get you a definite gain. Just my .02.

I went with a 85mm Z06 version from PaceParts, it was calibrated. I had no problems with it, nor did my tuner have problems tuning it, which is more that can be said of some of the 'other' MAF sensors on the market. IMO this is the most consistant one (you never hear of people having problems with it, unlike the others which is hit or miss), but the gains are debatable. I have no dyno evidence, but I felt some throttle response pick up after I had it installed, just like installing a ported tb.

tuning with slp is not desirable, im rocking a speed density tune right now, only cause the stock maf was bad. I bought a acdelco replacement for when i get tuned for the stall and cam.

Wow! So I guess there was nothing wrong with your stocker huh?

A BROKEN stock maf isn't going to read worth a **** is it? I'm pretty sure an SLP unit works better, but that doesn't mean you should use it.

The age-ole consensus is the stocker is PERFECT until you have a motor making 500+ at the wheels.

The only bad thing about the stock MAF is when it craps out, it won't throw codes, it just sucks. Mad my car run so lean my plugs looked brand new again, and i have LT's and should be rich. Still have funky rich idling and lean WOT with a new one, but figure that one out later

My car has 57500 miles on it. I just ported the MAF. Did it the right way no problems. Runs better when lean.
