Default question on underdrive damper for ls1

Hey guy's, I installed a underdrive damper on my z28 and my question is, how far in, does the damper should go, the back of the damper is about 1/4 to 3/16s away from the timing chain cover, is this right or does it need to be almost flushed to it? I used an impact gun to tighten it but the pulley seems to be a bit shaky, which causes the a/c compressor's idler pulley to "jump" (only at high rpms).

The pulley shouldn't be hit on with a impact gun. It's supposed to be TQ'd to yield if its a stock bolt, or 240 ft. lb.s if it is a ARP bolt. Does the pully seem to be in line? Have you removed the belt to see if you can shake it with your hand? What kind of pully is it?

Oops, well acording to some magazine i read about it, it said "not to worry about breaking the bolt unless you've really been working out", so thats why i figured to use an impact gun, anyways, when the engine is on, the pulley seems to be "wobbelly" but its tight, and i haved tried shaking it with my hands (yes, without the belt)and nothing, i belive the pulley is an ASP not sure, when i got the car back from service (of a fords dealer) it had that pulley on, but i had taken it off then ofcourse installed it back on. Thanx
