Oil collector ?

Wasnt sure where to post this so here goes,
Ive heard of some ppl putting an oil collector between the pcv valve right before it to trap oil that is trying to pass through, which would result in the intake being gummed up with crap. I was wondering what the purpose is exactly? Are these just called oil collectors then ?

its called a catch can. it prevents oil from getting into the intake. theres alot of stuff on them on this site, use the search button.
