Default Installing the engine from the top

We removed the engine from the bottom, but we now don't have access to the lift. I bought the "happy hooker" to help ease the installation. What I need to know is what accessories can I reinstall onto the engine and still get the engine in the car easily? Including crank pully, coils etc.

Thanks.

i would imagine the only way to get the engine in would be to drop the shortblock in, no heads, no oil pan. then attach the k-member and get to work.

You can still install it from the bottom using a simple engine hoist, you just attach it to the core-support and lift the car.

You don't need a lift to install a short block in the car. You can do it with jack stands. It's easier with a lift but isn't that hard with the jackstands.

Mine went in from the top with heads on. That's what he connected the chains to: bolts in the accessory holes in the heads. Just fuel rails and intake were removed if I remember correctly. Even had the pulley on it already.

i put my motor back in with the following installed=
heads, rockers, valvecovers, waterpump, balancer. the coil packs may get in the way and the intake and rails will also so i left them off and put them on when i FINALLY got it in.i suggest whatever tranny you have if it is still in the car to unbolt the crossmember and pull the tranny back some because i had alot of trouble getting my dowel pins lined up.

you can remove the plastic part the wraps around the windshield wipers. that gives you a lot more room.

its so easy to put the motor in from the bottom, you will already have your headers all hooked up, your wiring will all be ready to go, you just hook up steering, brake lines, put the computer back and you are ready to go. getting the poly motor mounts to go in the cradles ive heard is really hard doing it from the top.

its not just becuase we like removing k memebers, its just easier to drop the k member. from the time that i had the motor on the k member, and started lining things up.. literaly in 10 minutes the motor was back in the car with all the k member.

It is so much easier from the bottom. When we did my mine a few years back we installed it from the top. It was just a complete longblock and then we had to throw all the access. , headers and such on after words. It was alot more time consuming than dropping it in from the bottom just my 2 cents.

Thanks, but PLEASE just tell me what accessories I can keep on the car when putting the engine in from the top. I am not going to put it in from the bottom, and I know how much easier it is, but I will not attempt it without a lift.

Thanks.
