3" to 2.5" hurt performance?

3" to 2.5" hurt performance? I currently have stock manifolds and Y-pipe with the 3" Flowmaster 80-series catback. I am going for a louder setup with no tips. The GA laws require OBDI cars (due to sniffer) to have exhaust pipes exiting past the rear axle.
I have a 2.5" Dynomax Bullet muffler laying around my house, and was wondering if I put the Bullet in the I-pipe, and just hacked off the rear section of the exhaust at the back side of the axle, will the 3" to 2.5" and back to 3" transition hurt performance or effect sound? Thanks.

Actually this will boost your performance. Flowmaster c/b on our cars sucks so cutting it off will be a nice gain. I doubt the 2.5" reducer will hurt you hardly at all considering you're mostly stock. Whatever small amount it hurts (if any) will be more than made up for by ditching that catback.
