Default headers install gone wrong

well we started around 1 today and got everything of the car in a few hours, taking out time, my head being thrasted by the stock y pipe also. We then procceeded to try to fit the mac mids in. first off, i want to say BULL **** they dont just drop in from the top.we tried for 3 hours top and bottom and we finally decided to cut the tab on the drivers side and put em in from the bottom. the pass side looks even worse and i dont have the slightest clue on how to get those in there. if anyone can shed some light on install tips or freebies, let me know.. mac mids dont simply drop in. and we tried budging over the tranny (moved maybe 1") and we couldnt get the 2nd lower bolt off the steering linkage even after hitting it with pb blaster for a few minutes. o well, just shoot me some tips for getting these bitches in!

You need to attack from the bottom.
On the pass side it should slide right in, but you need to have the car jacked up taller than you can stand and once you get it there jack it some more. The driver side you will probably have to cut the tab on the block. Try and put them in and see where they are making contact and see if something can be removed or something else. PM me if you still are having problems.

PS I just got done installing my long tubes and it was a 10 hour bitch.

just played around with stuff now, and we cut the tab off, and the driver side slides in in 5 minutes, the pass side isjacked to the roof and it looks like the motor will need to be jacked about 1 1/2" to get in. stupid gm tolerances...here is the state of things:

Shoulda went LT's Nah yes you need O2 extensions or go to your local parts store and get Bosch # 13111 They are the Corvette O2's and are longer than F-Bodies. Also ditto on attacking from underneath. You may need to jack the motor up a little to install

My factory manifolds and Y-Pipe and exhaust came out easy, Jacked the car up as high as I could and slid my LT's right up and in no probs at all then mounted up the new X-Pipe. Total time about 4 hours start to finish and I even took a couple beer breaks

Default headers

I took a set out throught the top and they went back in with no problems throught the top as well. Just make sure to remove your valve covers, fuel lines, steering linkage and be ready to jack your motor from side to side for more clearance. The more you can get out of your way the easier it is to install any headers. Just be super carefull jacking your motor up when working off jack stands....

Jack the car up higher. Its scary at first, especially when your not used to it. Just get some good stands.

I did longtubes and had zero problems, all I had to do was disconnect the steering shaft. Just make sure the car is up high enough and they should slide right in.

And anyone the told you to go at it from the top is RETARDED!!!!

^^is that a practical joke?

--buz-understand that the front end of these cars is from the 80s. the tolerances on this car are horrible, im sure one or two cars can get the macs in from the top. i had to cut the tab and will end up raising the motor form the mount.

i had no real problems with doing mine.. i had to grind off 1/16th of the casting tab (took literally 5seconds with the grinder) i did not have to unbolt the engine or anything crazy...

first of all car needs to be higher.
take out steering linkage with 2 bolts one on top one on bottom. DO NOT MOVE STERRING WHEEL INSIDE OF CAR
if needed remove oil breather above oil filter w/ 2 bolts.

these have to go in from the bottom
and be careful with the spark plugs, its honestly not that hard just takes 2 people and patients

I have installed 2 different sets of MACS on two different cars and only had to cut the tab on drivers side and the pass side went in easy . Only took about 3-4 hrs for each install.
