Default Cost to delete EGR&AIR

There have been hundreds of posts on removing EGR and AIR,even how to's on install U. and others.I get the impression a great many of you are doing these mods. So,what is the average cost to turn off these codes?Or is everyone ignoring the SES light?.........AND.......if you have tuned them out does that render handheld programmers like Hypertech and Predator unusable?

you can have them tuned out, but lots of poeple just ignore the light. if you get lucky you might get a shop to do it for free, hoping to get your business for life, otherwise itll probly be about $75 for 5 minutes of work.

im not aware of any handheld programmers that can tune out emission codes.

one thing to consider: if you actually have a problem and your SES light is already on, you may never know. that can potentially lead to bad things.

With the handheld, what I meant was can you still use one after a tuner has altered your programming? Or if you reinstall a tume with your handheld did you just undo what the tuner did?
75$ ain't too bad though.

the handheld is not able to touch codes that have been deleted. I personally do not recommend getting a handheld tuner. I would get HPTuners and do the street tune myself.

But if you want the handheld, itll be ok, and the emission codes will not come back, promise

Around here its $150 (Speed Inc and FLP) but they'll sometimes run specials for half off basic tune, making it $75.

They have to have $500-10,000+ in software to be able to turn the codes off. I'll let you try to make your own tuning software, and you can see how much work goes into allowing the customer to simply set the code to "no error reported" not just pressing the delete key.

I'll let you do all of that, and then give it away

Between $75-125 is what I have seen, some charge more, especially if they need to license your vehicles ($99.98-$100+ depending on the tuning software used). If you want to get a good deal on a mail order tune, wait4me has a good option.

If I understand it correctly,a guy with HPtuners who wants to work on another vehicle has to BUY credits,so there is some cost involved.
On the handheld,I and I'm sure many others already have one. After Professional tume, can it be used again to change shift points or tire size or does it become a expensive paperweight?

most are expensive paperweights after a non stock tune is installed.

A SCT Xcal2, and a Predator can both have custom tunes installed onto them.

Thanks Ryan.If turning off codes was very expensive(like 3-400..00) then I wouldn't remove them and buy a LS6 intake with the EGR provision.Just making plans for when the weather breaks(I guess you don't have to worry about that!)

A basic tune isn't the same as having a few codes turned off, should cost less. It cost me $75 at MTI. If you find a place that does lifetime tunes, get them to do it, pay the money, and you'll be good for if you ever toss in a cam. The handheld tuner should work fine after the codes are deleted.

There really is no reason to remove them, unless you are installing race headers or the LS6 intake. I'd save my money and time until I was doing those mods.

well i have a LT1 94 z28. i removed EVERYTHING,cost me $100.00 for a block off plate thats it. no codes throw or anything.. but i also told my tuner i had removed them so he might have tuned them out. but i don;t think it mattered, cause my car never through a light with the cat removed for the past 5years either. just thought i would add my experience.
