Default Weiand Vs Ls6

I have the chance to get a Weiand ls6 intake for about the same price as a LS6 intake. Heat soak is not an issue. Which do you think will throw better numbers?

the weiand is going to be about the same, but it is going to look better than the ls6.

The Weiand was based off the LS6 intake. So it is supposed to flow a little bit better, but I think it is twice as heavy. It looks alot better IMO and not as common as the LS6. Try something different and go with the weiand!!!

I REPLACED A LS6 INTAKE ON A 01 C5 VETTE WITH THE WEIAND INTAKE AND THE BEFORE AFTER DYNOS NUMBERS TELL ALL!!! THE WEIAND LOST 12 HP COMPARED TO THE LS6 INTAKE AND 6 FTLBS OF TORQUE. AND HEAT SOAK IS AN ISSUE BECAUSE ALUMINUM WILL ATTRACT HEAT MORE THAN THE POLYMER PLASTIC WHICH WILL SHIELD IT BETTER! BUT YES IT WAS BASED OFF THE LS6 AS ALL AFTERMARKET INTAKES ARE BUT IT DOES NOT IMPROVE ANYTHING. IT IS ALSO TWICE AS HEAVY!!! NOT TRYING TO BE AN A**HOLE BUT TRYING TO HELP A LITTLE.

There are plenty of threads on this. I went against the plastic intake for a couple reasons. Like being able to port it & no having to worry about it exploding during a nitrous backfire.

You will not get a unbias opinion on this topic. I personally don't mind losing 12hp now for future gains & strength.

WHY WOULD YOU NEED TO PORT IT WHEN IT ALREADY FLOWS MORE THAN THE WEIAND. BUT ALL IN ALL IF YOU WANT TO FLOW MORE THAN JUST GET A BIGGER ONE. THE FAST LSX INTAKE IS REALLY THE BEST INTAKE ON THE MARKET WITH THE NICK WILLIAMS THROTTLE BODY, (PERIOD)!!!

Yea, if you got a couple grand to **** off. Those are really better on bigger cube applications though, which you would know if you did some research.

And if your askin why you would need to port the intake, you have lots of reading & learning to do. Anytime you port the intake to match aftermarket heads or increase the flow even more, your gonna make more power.

I came across an article that compared Horsepower, torque and flow number for about 10 different intakes for LS1's. The aluminum weiand/lingenfelter intake was in last place because it doesnt flow worth a crap. I think it made like 2hp more or less than a stock ls1 intake. The composite LS6 is one of the best for its price. Only buy the weiand if you are into the look, dont care about power, your going to port it, or your going to spray a 200+ shot and want the strength of aluminum.

Basically

LS6>Weiand

I would too. It was an awesome in depth article and shows pictures of each intake. I think I saw it on this site or maybe I googled it. I looked for a brief moment before I posted but I couldnt find it. I'll try to find it later and post it.

I believe the article you are speaking of is the TPIS tests. I think it was also in a magazine but for the life of me i can't remember which. It should be pretty easy to dig up in a search tho.

I think the LS6 is a better deal regardless. You can get the LS6 from SLP for $370, and put down better numbers. In my mind there is no question what I would go with.

You can paint the LS6 intake if you want to. I always thought it was easier to dust off painted plastic than to sit there and scrub polished metal.

$285? Sounds relatively cheap. I'd try it, and if it didn't work out you could resell and not be out much money at all.

Exactly. Could probably sell it on ebay for $350 fairly easy.

Beats $600 for a new LS6.
