Question Coolant system help!!!!

I keep getting the low coolant system sensor light going off every now and then but my coolant level is fine. I actually put a little extra in the reservoir just in case. Does anyone know what that is from? Also, when I first got my SS it ran at about 185* or just the second dash after the 160* but since I replaced my thermostat when it went bad with a dealer thermostat 195* the car started running at about 210* when its hot or stop and go. I bought a hypertech programmer but haven't gotten around to connect it and all until I get my intake. I bought a k&n system but they sent me the wrong one so I'm waiting for my refund then I'm going to buy an SLP lid. First what is up with the low coolant sensor is it a glitch or what? Where could I get the best price on a 180* thermostat and an SLP lid? Are those two good parts to go with? Any input is appreciated!!!!!!!!!!

The low coolant sensor is a red-headed stepchild. They are so shitty, that GM stopped using them in the later cars. You can simply unplug it, and tape up the connector. This will keep the light off. Mine still comes on from time to time, and it's not even plugged in lol. It goes off after a restart or so.

As for the thermostat, I'm assuming you have a '98 car, or you'd be reading 210 all the time. Am I correct? Most 160* thermostats actually cause the car to run about 180-185, and stock thermostats run about 210, I don't see a problem with that. My guess is the car either had a 160* stat in it before, or a replacement that wasn't as stingy as stock.

If you want it to run 185 or so, put a 160* in and change the fan settings (hypertech will do it). I believe I got mine from Thunder or BYUNSpeed.

The SLP lid and 160* stat are worthwhile mods, you're good to go.

as for the coolant light. pull the plug, clean it, put some dio-electric grease. "whatever it's called". same grease recommended for spark plug wires. if that dont work then do as TheBLurLS1 mentioned.

Yeah I do have a 98, how did you know do you have ESPN or something??? Just kidding!!! But yeah during the summer it reads 210-220 on a hot day. Maybe thats why it ran cooler when I first got, the previous owner may have had a 160* but using a 180* thermostat what while it make the car run will it just be 15* cooler than the 195* one? Where can I get the 180* and the slp lid for the best price? other than ebay? where is the coolant temp sensor?
thanks for the help

@ ESPN!

The coolant temp sensor is about 5" below the radiator cap on the motor side of the radiator, can't miss it. You'll have to shop around on the prices.

Do a search on the thermostats. I read a bunch, and settled on the 160*.

Can't post prices to non sponsor ads dawg.

I would buy from a sponsor, because I like the customer service, but to each his own.
