Default Kooks header install thread?

I will be installing some kooks 6500rhs headers b4 long with a ORY and wondered if anyone had a nice install thread? Not like I never installed headers b4 but I would like to know all the issues and things b4 hand that I might have. Also what plugs and wires do most people use?

I put in a set of Kooks SS headers and ORY this past weekend. Install went great.

Just make sure you have the car way up in the air...mine was probably ~2ft in the air from K-member to the ground.

I don't know that I've ever seen an install thread for them, but it's relatively straight forward.

One tip I can offer you to make it easier is to ZIP tie the gasket loosely to the flange through a couple bolt holes. This make it easier being that you have one less thing to try and hold on to. Also, then the gasket holes are lined up correctly with the holes in the flanges. Then when you have a couple bolts started, just snip the ZIP ties and finish running the rest of the bolts in.

I actually put mine in by myself....was frustrating at times, but went pretty smooth overall.

Good luck.

Oh did you have any pictures of your install also and did you use the gaskets that came with the headers or did you get new gm ones?

Unfortunately I didn't take any "in-progress" pics...but I could get you some of the finished product if that helps.

I used the gaskets that came with the Kooks...but I think either those or the stockers would be fine.

Hope those help you out with the install.

No use on swapping the wires if they look good still, the stockers are fine...same with the header gaskets.

Another word of advice, is to leave the plugs out until you have the headers in. Just leaves you a bit more room and every little bit helps.

Good luck!

Yeh I was wondering on that some headers make it really hard to get plugs in with the headers on. Thx

the zip tie idea is pretty clever, but i didn't have problem with holdin the gasket in place by hand.

Yeah man it worked pretty well. I was able to do the drivers side without using it, but the passenger side proved to be a bit more trouble when doing it by myself.

I need four hands and six elbows sometimes when working on this car!
