Default 98 knock sensor question

Do the 98 ls1 knock sensors really show 3-4 degrees retard all the time?

I would change 'em. I was constantly getting 4* at the track, swapped them out, and it dropped dramatically. I also went in and edited the KS tables to resemble the 2002 tables.

My friend went from 12.0 to consistant 11.7's after his were swapped from his '98 lol. You also have to get a new little harness for them, as they have different clips on the new style sensors.

Yep. Those 2 wires heading toward the back of the motor swing around and there's a weathertight connector just out of view. You simply unplug the old one and clip on the new one. New knock sensors just screw in.

Familiarize youself with how the new harness unclips from the new knock sensors. It took me 2 flathead screwdrivers and a buddy to get mine loose. You have to depress both sides and pull up at the same time, it's hard when they're down in that hole and your fat fingers won't fit.

I think if the socket was big enough to go over the clips, it would be too big to fit the hex portion of the sensor. It's not very hard, just kinda tricky to get the clips popped off. Maybe I was doing it wrong, I've been wrong before lol.

Yep. 15 ft-lbs. A 7/8" socket will fit them if you don't have a big enough metric one.

This is good advice, lol I SHATTERED the clip from my old harness trying to unclip it with a screwdriver, lucky for me I had a new harness ready for it anyway

use a pair of needle nose pliers, and squeeze the connectors, were they are ovaled. If you look at them, they are circular, but their are two bulges on each side of the circle, that is where you want to squeeze. just apply a little pressure, and walk the connector up wards off the sensor.

Hi

I assume I will need 2 sensors and 1 harness? Or does each sensor have its own harness? Thanks.
