Default Airbox Question

I picked up a 99 T/A about a month ago and am about to start modding it. First was gonna be the airbox but the one that is on there now looks different from what was on my 98 Z28. Can someone tell me if this is stock and whether I should leave this or change it? It doesn't seem like a great fit to me and there is a weird, poorly fitting, foam surround that goes on it that "seals" the airbox to the hood.

its the old style "ram air" airbox. its worth a little bit so you can sell it and buy a base air lid tray and aftermarket lid if you wanted.

That looks like a Suncoast airbox. Very good flowing, I would keep it. Just get a new filter.

I ran this setup on my bird, and it helped me pull 344 rwhp with shorties. Even if it doesn't make a good seal, it still has a large opening, and draws in cool fresh air through the hood.

lol blur....and yea thats a old, rare style of airbox. i've only seen a few people who have it. it's definately not stock and should show a power gain. if you really wanted, you could sell that on here and use the money for a newer design lid.

You'll also need a new radiator support if you swap back. It's the plastic piece under that airbox. Looks like you've got an LT1 style one on there now. You can usually find them in the for sale section.
