if you have some tools and a jack, stall should be a diy mod.. first, what gears did your car come with? 2.73's or 3.23's? if it has 3.23's, i wouldnt even bother with a gearswap, go straight for a stall converter and a trans cooler. installed should be right at a grand for a good converter like a yank 3200-3400. this mod alone should get you putting 2 cars on your friend.

Gears require adjusting the speedo and frequently the shift points, so they are not always a cheap fix. Plus a stall & stock gears makes for a better racer if you aren't running drag radials.
Look at your codes: GU2 = 2.73s, GU5 = 3.23s.

If you're unsure about exhaust then go with a cutout. They sound good on a stock y pipe, not too loud. Its not an expensive mistake if you do decide to go LTs and ORY or catted Y later, you could re-use it in that set up too. Catbacks are where the money is. If headers are remotely possible in your future then do yourself a favor and stay away from the loudmouth.
