Supposed to free up horsepower by bypassing the muffler.

More power...depending on how restrictive the rest of your exhaust system is and where you put the cutout.

A cut-out is normally going to give you 5-10 HP and a really loud exhaust tone as it is bypassing the muffler, if your going to do it I would recommend an electric cut-out so you will be able to easily control how loud your exhaust is. Also there are a few different locations to place them with the majority of cut-out owners putting it on the i-pipe if I recall correctly. Do a cut-out search and you might pull up all the locations as I'm not entirely familiar with them all.

Some people like them some don't, it's all a matter of preference. I have a cutout in my stock exhaut and I love it. Also with all I have heard through sound clips and word of mouth, a cutout sounds great with headers and an aftermarket Y. Check for some sound clips on www.ls1sounds.com I would also recommend an electric cutout, so easy to control.

Well if you want an electric cutout, you will prolly pay 150-180 or so for a new one. I picked my DMH up on E-bay for 130, brand new. I would recommend lookin around for somethin like that or a quality used one, DMH also offers a 4yr free replacement warranty. Just a manual cutout will run you 30 bucks or so, then plus install. ok, well that sounds good im going to buy it in a couple days here, hard to install by yourself?... and for these types of exhaust im guessing its just a single cutout right?

Well, it needs to be welded more than likely so unless you can weld it in you need to take it to a shop. and yes just one cutout, in my opinion in the I-pipe, right under the rear pass. seat. As far as the elec. cutout install goes, it is fairly easy, I wired mine up through my cig lighter.

You will be fine if you have a stock exhaust sytstem. If you had long tubes and 3in y-pipe into a 4in I pipe with no cats on a stock motor then you would have no backpressure. With a stock exausht minus the cats with a cutout you will be fine.

Yeah, the ideal is a quiet cat-back, like stock, and then the cutout. Then you have the best of both worlds. If you're looking for a bargain, just have the manual cutout welded onto your I pipe, and then when you have the cash, you can upgrade to an electric.

I have long tubes, into 3" off road y, into 3" I. My cutout is right before the I pipe goes over the axle. I gained about 7hp on the dyno with the cutout open vs closed.

Hope that helps.

I wonder if there would be a big difference between dumping it before the axle, and after the axle right before the muffler. I looked at the writeup on that today, and the one right before the muffler looked pretty nice, I like the thought of having it exit near the rear of the car too, as opposed to right in the middle.

I got my cutout installed today, and I love it! It was installed right under the rear passenger seat on the I-pipe, there's an indent in the floorboard that looks like it was made for it.

Using the *** dyno I felt a little loss down low, but when the car gets up in rpm it feels (and definitely sounds) a bit stronger.

Plus the burbling on decel is AWESOME
