Default Sheet metal intake vs. stock style..

What are the main differences (besides price) of sheet metal intakes and stock style?
Everyone always talks about sheet metal intakes giving up lots of low end power. What makes them lose so much low end?

My car lost 20 ft lbs. of TQ. below 5,000rpms was even for a few hundred then gained 25 hp on the big end.
It also made peak HP about 500 rpms later.

This was fast 90/90 vs. metal intake with 90mm TB.

Quick pic of the intake......

A metal intake should also be more suceptible to heat soak... maybe why low end power suffered?

One of the biggest reasons the typical sheetmetal intake loses down low and gains up high is the shorter intake runners.

i was always told that was one of the keys

longer runners help give you more torque over a larger range in the low end

short runners make an engine more peaky power wise but can new a few more hp up top

I was thinking that but then I thought of the LS6 intake, that has pretty short runners. I didn't know if there was more to it than runner length.

Runner length and plenum volume have the most effect.

Can you elaborate on the plenum volume, how it impacts the power band?
