Default Need help with fuel line problem!!!!!!

I need to know what the part in the pic is. I was trying to put some FRC's on today and broke the line going into it. I got the number off of the top and looked it up at gmpartsdirect.com and it says its a Fuel Tank Evaporator Control. Is this correct? If it is not hooked up will it cause me any problems? Need help fast!!! Thanks.

fuel line that is broken

[quote]The EVAP purge solenoid valve allows manifold vacuum to purge the canister. The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) supplies a ground to energize the EVAP purge solenoid valve (purge on). The EVAP purge solenoid control is Pulse Width Modulated (PWM) or turned on and off several times a second.

If you broke the line off you will probably get a small vacuum leak when the valve is open. You will probably set a code like a P0446 (don't remember exact number), which indicates a leak in the evap control system, similiar to if you left your fuel cap loose. <img src="gr_stretch.gif" border="0">

It should be safe to drive. I'd try to plug it off the best you can, especially the line side (fuel vapors), and unplug the connector so that it does not operate and create a vacuum leak --- this will definatly set a code with it disconnected. I would also try to cap off the vacuum source on the intake manifold with a vacuum cap if its convenient.

I would think a person could actually remove the entire Evap system, clear the code with LS1Edit and never have a problem. They don't actually test for the at emissions do they?
